Efthymia Penderi
Efthymia Penderi Associate Professor of Social Pedagogy at the Democritus University of Thrace Efthymia Penderi is Associate Professor of Social Pedagogy at the Democritus University of Thrace (DUTh), in the Department of Education Sciences in Early Childhood. Her work bridges research, policy, and practice, with a primary focus on early childhood education and care (ECEC). She has participated in national and European research projects addressing ECEC curricula and quality frameworks, inclusive interventions, and professional development initiatives that promote participatory and democratic practices in education. She has contributed significantly to recent reforms in Greek early childhood education, leading the scientific team that developed the new national preschool curriculum and serving as a core member of the interdisciplinary EAN project for the introduction of early English as a Foreign Language (EFL) in preschool education. At DUTh, she is a member of the EMERGE Alliance working group, where she plays a leading role in Work Package 2 on Community Engagement and Services. She has also contributed to projects led by the DUTh Centre for Teaching and Learning aimed at enhancing quality in university pedagogy. Her research interests include family–school–community partnerships, sociocultural approaches to learning, children’s participation rights and democratic citizenship, relational pedagogies, and the use of artificial intelligence in education.
