Stavros Tzimas

Stavros Tzimas was born in Avlotopos, Souli, in the regional unit of Thesprotia, and studied Economics at the University of Macedonia in Thessaloniki. He entered journalism through Rizospastis in 1980 and subsequently worked for the newspapers Ta Nea and To Pontiki, for the Athens News Agency, and also collaborated with Swedish Radio. Since 1996, he has headed the Thessaloniki bureau of Kathimerini, and since 2008 he has served as Vice Chairman and Director of the Macedonia Directorate of the Athens-Macedonian News Agency.
Since the early 1990s, he has covered Balkan affairs, with assignments during the wars in Bosnia, Kosovo, and the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia. He has been honoured with the Botsis Foundation Award for the promotion of journalism for his investigations into human trafficking networks, as well as by the Foundation for National Reconciliation of Albania for his reports on the bloody vendettas in northern Albania. He is married and has two daughters.
