Christina M. Akrivopoulou

Christina M. Akrivopoulou is a Doctor of Law at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Assistant Professor of Institutions and Policies of Human Rights Protection at Hellenic Open University (HOU). She is among others serving as a Vice President of the Gender Equality and Anti-Discrimination Committee and a member of the Ethics and Deontology of Research Ethics Committee at Hellenic Open University. Since 2002 she has been an Attorney at Law at the Thessaloniki Bar Association specializing in public law and human rights law litigation, including ECtHR cases. She has received a postgraduate (1999-2001), doctoral (2002-2006) and postdoctoral scholarship (2009-2011) from the Greek State Scholarships Foundation, has been a postdoctoral fellow of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki Academic Excellence Program (2014) and the equivalent Hellenic Open University Program for her research on human rights (2017). She has worked as a President and Member of the Refugee Appeals Authority and the Ministry of Citizens Protection from 2013-2017. She has lectured on human rights, comparative, international and Greek constitutional law in Democritus University of Thrace, in Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, in the University of Mesina and in the UNESCO Chair, Thessaloniki Master-Class Program. She is Editor in Chief of the International Journal of Human Rights and Constitutional Studies Journal since 2014 and she has authored or edited several books and papers on human rights, privacy and data protection, LGTBIQ+ rights, freedom of expression, gender equality, the right to housing and the right to environment.
