Following in the footsteps of great national benefactors such as Zappas, Arsakis, Benakis, Tositsas, and Averoff, Katerina Sofianou Belefanti stands out as a prominent figure of the Greek diaspora.

Born in Cairo, she served as President of the SofMedica Group, a well-established company providing high-end healthcare technologies and services in Southeastern Europe. She has offered generous support wherever needed and has been repeatedly honored for her charitable work and acts of solidarity. Declared a “Great Benefactor” by the Greek Community of Cairo, she contributed significantly to the restoration of the Holy Church of Saints Constantine and Helen, a landmark of Orthodoxy in Africa. She also supported the Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi’s “Decent Life” initiative, aimed at regional development and village support, and made a substantial donation to the Egyptian state to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.

Her contribution to the promotion and dissemination of the Greek language and literature in Romania is also significant. She offers annual scholarships to the top three students of the Modern Greek Studies Department at the University of Bucharest and has donated hundreds of Greek books to its library. Additionally, she fully funded the research and publication of a book by the philhellene professor Tudor Dinu, titled “Fashion and Luxury in Wallachia during the Greek Revolution,” published by Akritas.

• Distinctions and Awards:
She has received numerous distinctions and awards, including:
– Nomination for a Lifetime Achievement Award
– GIWA International Recognition Award (supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs)
– Honors from the Greek Embassy in Bucharest and the Hellenic-Romanian Chamber of Commerce for her business, cultural, and philanthropic contributions

She has also been named an honorary member of the National Society of Greek Writers and the Hellenic Society of Literary Translators, and has been honored by the Hellenic-Romanian Chamber for her contribution to Greek letters and the promotion of Greek literature abroad. In Romania, she has carried out significant solidarity initiatives and, in 2013, was awarded the title of Knight of the Order of the Crown of Romania.

Furthermore, she received one of the highest distinctions from Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa Theodore II, including the Cross of the Archontissa of the Churches and the Grand Cross of Saint Savvas, as well as the title of “Ambassador of Diaspora Hellenism.”

In 2020, on the occasion of International Women’s Day, she spoke at the Women Economic Forum in Cairo (March 4–9), addressing the advantages of women in leadership positions, and received the “Exceptional Women of Excellence” award.

She has received dozens of honorary distinctions and widespread recognition for her life’s work. Born in Egypt and raised as a “citizen of the world,” her sense of purpose and duty has been deeply rooted since an early age. Her purpose has been to channel her inner drive into meaningful creation, while her duty has always been centered on serving people.

This dual principle is balanced with her profound love for the Greek language, her homeland, and the Orthodox faith, ultimately making her a true ambassador of Hellenism worldwide. She was a dynamic and distinguished businesswoman who excelled alongside her husband, Pantelis, as well as an exceptional philanthropist whose documented public contributions represent only a part of her overall offering.

Her quiet and spontaneous generosity is reflected in the many accounts that follow her, which she meets with a humble smile. On October 12, 2025, Greece honored her with the Golden Cross of the Order of Honor, recognizing in her an exemplary figure worthy of emulation.
