Archbishop Iosif (Joseph) Bosch

Archbishop of Buenos Aires, Argentina

He was ordained a Deacon in 1997 by the late Metropolitan Gennadios of Selymbria at the Patriarchal Church of Saint George the Trophy-Bearer in the Phanar, at which time he received the name Joseph. He was ordained to the priesthood (Presbyter) in his hometown in 2000 by the late Metropolitan Gennadios Chryssoulakis of Buenos Aires.

In 2006, by order of His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, he was transferred to Argentina, where he has since served in this sacred eparchy of the Ecumenical Throne in South America.

In 2011, he submitted his doctoral dissertation at the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas (Angelicum) in Rome, where he was awarded his PhD with highest honors. In March 2012, he was also awarded, with distinction, a doctorate from the Department of Pastoral and Social Theology of the Faculty of Theology at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

On May 31, 2012, upon the favorable recommendation of His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, he was unanimously elected by the Holy and Sacred Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate as Bishop of the once-renowned Diocese of Patara.

● He served as a member of various committees of the World Council of Churches on behalf of the Mother Church (2004–2022), and also participated in Patriarchal delegations and missions during its General Assemblies. He has taken part in numerous inter-Christian and interfaith conferences and symposia.

In September 2019, he completed extensive research in the field of Dogmatic Theology and was awarded a postdoctoral diploma from the Faculty of Theology of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. On November 29, 2019, he was unanimously elected as the third Metropolitan of Buenos Aires.

He is the author of studies, articles, and scholarly works on dogmatic theology, and has translated numerous liturgical and theological books, texts, and articles into his native language, Spanish.
