  • Ioannis Tsinopoulos
    Ioannis Tsinopoulos
    Professor of Ophthalmology, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki

    Professor Ioannis Tsinopoulos is Professor of Ophthalmology at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He is a graduate of the School of Medicine of the same institution and holds a PhD from the School of Medicine of the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich. He completed his clinical specialization in Ophthalmology at the Department of Ophthalmology of Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, Germany.

    Since 2004, he has been a member of the Faculty of the School of Medicine at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, where he was initially appointed as Lecturer in Ophthalmology and has subsequently progressed to the rank of Professor. His academic responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and postgraduate medical students, as well as supervising clinical training and research activities in ophthalmology.

    Professor Tsinopoulos has developed a distinguished clinical and research profile, with a substantial body of work published in national and international peer-reviewed medical journals. His scholarly contributions also include authorship of chapters in ophthalmology textbooks. He serves as a reviewer for international scientific journals and has acted as editor for special issues in the field of ophthalmology.

    He maintains an active role in the scientific community, currently serving as Vice President of the Ophthalmological Society of Northern Greece and as a member of the governing bodies of national and international scientific societies in ophthalmology. In addition, he has been appointed President of the National Boards of Ophthalmology for Northern Greece.

    Since September 2021, he has served as Director of the Laboratory of Experimental Ophthalmology at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, where he leads research initiatives in experimental and translational ophthalmology. Since February 2022, he has also been Director of the postgraduate (MSc) program “Ocular Surgery” at the same institution.

    Professor Tsinopoulos has organised and participated in numerous international conferences and collaborative research initiatives, with particular emphasis on experimental ophthalmology and cataract surgery. He is currently serving as Leader of Work Package 2 (WP2) of the EPICUR Alliance (European Partnership for an Innovative Campus Unifying Regions), contributing to the development of innovative academic and research collaborations at the European level.

    Vasileios Tsioukas

    Professor at the School of Rural and Surveying Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece and Director of the Laboratory of Topography. His main research interests include terrestrial and aerial photogrammetry (using UAV imagery, scanned aerial photographs, and stereoscopic satellite images), laser scanning systems (mobile and terrestrial), SLAM technologies (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping), 3D modelling and 3D printing, CAD–CAM technologies, 3D documentation of monuments and industrial facilities, as well as geoinformatics and programming in Windows and Mac OS environments (C/C++, Python, VB). He is the author of more than 80 publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals and conference proceedings, with over 1,000 citations, and has participated in more than 50 research projects as principal investigator or coordinator.

Currently, he contributes his expertise as a high-level Jury member for the European Commission’s EIC Accelerator. Sotiris holds an MBA from Imperial College London and a BSc in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

    Assistant Professor at the School of Rural and Surveying Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. His main research focus is the development of GNSS receivers and surveying systems for mapping and staking out, utilizing additive manufacturing technologies along with hardware and firmware development. He specializes in the acquisition, processing, and visualization of 3D geospatial data using modern instruments such as TLS and SLAM systems, UAVs equipped with RGB and LiDAR sensors, GNSS receivers, and total stations. He has extensive research experience in indoor positioning technologies using radio beacons (UWB, BLE) and Wi-Fi. Additionally, he has strong expertise in multiple programming languages and in developing applications for smart mobile devices, IoT systems, web applications, augmented reality (AR), as well as microcontrollers and embedded systems. He has participated in 22 research projects in Greece and abroad and has collaborated with startups and R&D companies in the development of geodetic GNSS receivers.

    Olga Panagiotopoulou is a graduate of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki School of Medicine and is currently a postgraduate student in the MSc program in Ocular Surgery. Her academic and research work explores emerging applications of 3D technologies in ophthalmology, with an emphasis on their translational potential. Positioned at the intersection of medicine and technology, her interests focus on how novel tools can shape the future of ophthalmic research and practice. She values dialogue with fellow young scientists and interdisciplinary exchange as drivers of collaborative innovation.
