Artificial Intelligence is rapidly transforming teaching and learning in higher education. This round table brings together representatives from universities and Centers for Teaching and Learning (KEDIMA) to present proposals and emerging practices from their institutions. The discussion will focus on three key areas: institutional policies and guidelines for AI use, professional development initiatives for academic staff, and the pedagogical and institutional challenges related to the integration of AI in university teaching.

  • Stavros Nicolaou
    Stavros Nicolaou
    Group Senior Executive, Aspen Pharmacare Holding Ltd.

    Dr Nicolaou has almost 38 years’ experience in the pharmaceutical industry, mainly in domestic and international general management.

    Nicolaou has been recognized in the Global Top 100 Health Edition Honorees Most Influential People of African Descent (MIPAD) in Healthcare.received Greece’s ARGO Public Service award from the President of Greece in 2023 and has received the International Federation of Pharmacists IPS Medal for 2024 for Outstanding Contributions in Industrial Pharmacy. He was recently awarded the National Order of Merit of the Ill degree of the Republic of Ukraine by President Zelenskyy for personal contribution to strengthening interstate cooperation between SA and Ukraine. He is a previous winner of the SA Institute of Marketing Management (IMM) Health Care Marketer of the year Award, has been inducted as a fellow of the Pharmaceutical Society of South Africa and was elected as an honorary member of the Southern African Society for Thrombosis and Haemostasis.

    In 2019 he received an honorary doctorate in Medicine from Wits University and was awarded the Order of the Lion of St Mark by the Greek Orthodox Pope Theodoros II and is a recipient of the Title of “High Commander of the Order of the Apostle & Evangelist Mark” of the Patriarchate of Alexandria. He’s presently the Group Senior Executive for Strategic Trade for Aspen Pharmacare Holdings and is a member of the Holdings Group executive which has oversight of the more than 60 countries Aspen operates in globally.

    Presently serves on a number of industry boards and advisory councils including the President’s National Orders Advisory Council andalso presently chairs the Saudi-SA Business Council, a member of the SA-France Business Council and serves on the Board of Business Unity South Africa and the BRICS Business Council. Stavros is the Co-Chair of the B20 of the Industrial Transformation and Innovation Task Force and he has previously served as Chairman of the Interim Board andon the Board of Cricket South Africa and has served on the Boards of both BrandSA and Proudly SA sits on the 2027 Cricket World Cup Board. He has been a regular speaker at the Economist Roundtable, World Economic Forum (WEF), WTO and IFC.

    Nicolaou is particularly passionate about diversity, transformation, championing localisation and building bridges between the private and public sector in order to improve access to treatment for patients in emerging markets and improving healthcare outcomes in these markets.

    Professor of Basic and Clinical Pharmacology at the Department of Clinical Pharmacology, School of Medicine, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki

    Dr. Georgios Papazisis is a Full Professor of Basic and Clinical Pharmacology at the Department of Clinical Pharmacology, School of Medicine, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece.
    He is a specialized Psychiatrist and has also obtained the Greek Medical board certification of the medical sub-specialty of Clinical Pharmacology.
    Currently, he is the Medical Director of the Clinical Research Unit of the School of Medicine, at the Papageorgiou Hospital in Thessaloniki, coordinating early phase clinical trials.
    Dr Papazisis currently serves as the:
    · Co-chair of the newly formed Special Interest Group (SIG) on ‘Pragmatic trials’ of the European Network of Centres for Pharmacoepidemiology & Pharmacovigilance (ENCePP) coordinated by the European Medicines Agency (EMA).
    · Administrator for the Aristotle University Organization of the NIH US National Library of Medicine clinical trial registry ClinicalTrials.gov.
    · Pharmacovigilance referent person for the Greek National Hub in the conect4children (c4c) project
    · Chair of the Committee for Bioethics and Medical Ethics of the School of Medicine.
    · Principal Investigator for the Phase III study: An Efficacy and Safety, Phase III, Multi-center, Double-Blind, Randomized Controlled Study Comparing 2 Active Doses of CYB003 and Placebo in Eligible Participants with Major Depressive Disorder (EMBRACE)
    Dr Papazisis is member of the management Board of the Greek National Regulatory Organization for Medicines (ΕΟΦ) and also the Greek delegate of the UEMS (Union Européenne des Médecins Spécialistes) section of Pharmacology, UEMS member of the i. newly established Federation for Medical Ethics and also the ii. thematic Federation for Equality, Diversity & Inclusivity.
