When Democracy Reaches Everywhere: Postal Voting and the Opening of a New Era for Our Country by Athanasios Balerbas, Secretary General Hellenic Ministry of Interior
Athanasios Balerbas was born in Athens in 1966. He served as Secretary General for Citizenship at the Hellenic Ministry of Interior from 2019 to 2023.
He holds a degree in Philology from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and a Master’s degree in Sustainable Local Development. He speaks English and German. He also holds a PhD from the School of Architecture of the National Technical University of Athens, in the field of Urban and Regional Planning.
He has participated as a speaker in conferences on the city and culture, and has published related studies in academic journals. He has also authored books published by Livanis Publishing Organization and Ellinika Grammata.
He has served as President and Chief Executive Officer in public-sector and local-government corporations. He currently works as a certified education executive in an International Baccalaureate institution.
