This panel will present the mission and activities of the International Medical Olympicus Association, highlighting its role in promoting scientific exchange, medical excellence, and international collaboration. The discussion will also honour the legacy of the late Professor Filippos Grammatikos and his contribution to the development of medical science. With the participation of Pouchronis Antonitsis, Pipitsa Valsamaki, and Maria Myronidou-Tzouvelaki, the panel will place particular emphasis on innovation in Nuclear Medicine and its evolving impact on diagnosis, treatment, and patient-centred healthcare.

  • Polychronis Antonitsis
    Polychronis Antonitsis
    Associate Professor of Cardiac Surgery, School of Medicine, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki

    Dr Polychronis Antonitsis graduated from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki School of Medicine in 1998. He completed his postgraduate studies (MSc in Medical Research Technology – 2002) and Doctorate Degree (PhD – 2007) at the same School. He performed his Specialty Training in Cardiothoracic Surgery at the Cardiothoracic Department, AHEPA University Hospital and at John Radcliffe Hospital, University of Oxford. He is a Board-Certified Cardiothoracic Surgeon since 2011. He was appointed Lecturer in Cardiac Surgery at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki School of Medicine in 2012 and since 2020 he holds the position of Associate Professor. His main research interest focuses on stem cell research and minimal invasive extracorporeal circulation, where he holds the position of the Secretary of the Minimal Invasive Extracorporeal Technologies International Society. He is the co-editor of 6 books and 18 book chapters. He is the author of 90 peer-reviewed articles published in journals indexed in PubMed/Medline with over 2,000 citations (h-index:22).

    Ms Maria Myronidou-Tzouvelaki is a graduate of the School of Medicine of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, where she also received her doctoral degree. Since 1982, she has been actively involved in all educational and academic activities of the Faculty of Health Sciences. She progressed through all ranks of the academic hierarchy, ultimately attaining the position of Full Professor, teaching clinical and molecular pharmacology to undergraduate and postgraduate students, while also contributing to the supervision and completion of numerous doctoral dissertations.

    Since 2018, she has held the title of Professor Emerita, continuing with undiminished commitment her teaching activities in undergraduate and postgraduate programmes of study, as well as her participation as a speaker in conferences and scientific meetings. She is the author of more than ten books and over 500 papers published in reputable Greek and international scientific journals, and has participated as an invited speaker in more than 200 conferences and scientific symposia. She is President of the Board of Directors of the International Medical Olympic Association.
